Manu have the overall English record now - van der Sar went 1311 minutes back in 08/09 but that was in the PL not FL so I think Reading/Death’s record is still valid for that competition.
Burnley last conceded a league goal in the 80th minute of a 2-1 win over Watford on 21 December, since then they’ve played 7 league games (around 630 minutes) without letting a goal in which makes probably around 650+ minutes in total including the last 10 v Watford and injury time in that & other games. Their next 4 games in the league would all be expected claret wins; Portsmouth (a), Oxford (h) Hull (h) and then a derby visit to Preston which would then put them in the territory for Reading’s record.
Of course this record wouldn’t be unbroken run of competitive games as it was with Reading as we scored against them in the cup and they have a trip to Soton to come in the 4th round in a couple of weeks.
Death's run didn't include 2 league cup games V Oxford where he conceded in both.
Fair enough, it’s just a simple league run then.
I think he'd likely still hold the record even if you include the league cup games as most of it was the end of the 1978-79 season in Div 4, and he only extended it by around 20 mins in the first league game of the season (1979-80).
Interestingly the defence in 1978-79 season went virtually unchanged through the whole season; Death, Peters, White, Hicks & Bennett. Death, White & Hicks played the entire season and Bennett & Peters missed a game each.
During the summer, Bennett & Peters left and Hicks broke his ankle early on in the first game the following season.
