Probable transfer nonsense - Knibbs leaving

by Brum Royal » 30 Jun 2025 12:07

Couple of Knibbs rumours on Twitter/X. First is more believable, second seems like utter tripe.

3 days ago:
TC9 @transfercentre9
Norwich City have made an offer of around £1m for Reading forward Harvey Knibbs.

The former Villa man got 20 G/A last season in League One from 43 games.

He is set to be offered a four year contract which is keen to sign,

Deal could be announced soon.

Yesterday:
The Secret Transfer Agent @secret_transfer
HOT OFF THE PRESS: Oxford United have had a 250k bid for Reading talisman, Harvey Knibbs, accepted.

I've been told that the forward is keen on a move from the Royals and is excited by the project under Gary Rowett.

Medical tomorrow.

We sold Bindon for £700k reportedly, so £1m for Knibbs seems a lot. And I'd question whether he's good enough to be a Norwich target, although I hear they've been shit

£250k seems a bit low, but Oxford is close and Championship. He'd fit a plan for fighting survival / a new L1 promotion push.

Bindon was almost out of contract though, no?

You may think that, but I couldn't possibly comment.

The vibe at the end of last season was that it would be a surprise if Knibbs is still here at the end of August.

At least 6 months left, I forget, but that's only 6 months less than Knibbs now. And Bindon also a significantly better player with a far higher ceiling.

Not sure what transfer fee Knibbs would command but he's only 26 and we're actually under sensible ownership so I'd hope we'd get close to his true value.

One would hope he and Garcia are priorities for the club to get to re-sign during the forthcoming season. But who knows, some clubs might come up with “to good to turn down” offers in the next couple of months or so.

In a case of complete guesswork and gut feeling, I'd be looking roughly £500k with 1 year on his contract, £750k with Hammondesque negotiation.

Obviously double that for Wrexham

Hunt admits there is interest in Knibbs from Championship clubs -

We have made it clear to Harv that if a bid comes in that is substantial to take him away, fair enough. If not, he won’t be going

Sheff Utd looking likely. Don't think this will end well for Selles.

There is absolutely no way we should be selling Harvey Knibbs for 500k. That would be stupidity

With 47 league goal contributions over the past three seasons (two of those in relegation threatened teams) we should be looking at a fee well in excess of £1m, if not £2m. Players with consistent goal and assists across multiple seasons go for a premium fee.

We should, but he only has a year left. If we extended it and gave him an extra year with a release clause then we might get in excess of a million. I doubt he or his agent would agree to that though.

Yeah, the one year seriously devalues. But it sounds like we're playing hardball. And to be fair, he only has to have a decent season to still get interest in 11 months and walk into a fat signing on fee, so it's not a big risk to see out his contract here.

1 year is a lot of time left on his contract and a reasonable one to be asking for a £2m+ fee considering his importance to our team. In a year we could be back in the championship and all of a sudden he's in that league anyway.

If the money is very good then sell, if not then keep
