Mid Sussex Royal This could be anything....in a way similar to the Millwall game a couple of years ago; lets play the likes of Osho, Sackey, Ahmed & Spencer and see how they do.

I did see a rare win at Fratton in 1978 (1-0) in the FA Cup when Steve Death had a blinder.

I was at that game. Deathie was our best ever keeper imo but he didn't "save" us that day, - we deserved to win.
I was also at Fratton Park in 1976, early in the season, when we won 2-0. I have a good record at Portsmouth but I'm afraid I'm not going tomorrow night!

Isn’t that (the FACup game) the season where we’d had the league fixture down there a couple of weeks before and been done 4-0?

The 4-0 defeat in the league was the Saturday after the 1-0 win in the FA cup. Both were in December 1978

Can`t wait for the fallout tonight when our weakened side loses without scoring again.

Could well be a repeat of Millwall a couple of years ago. Struggled at the start of the season, then went to Millwall and won 4-0(?).

It's a tough tie, in a competition we don't really care about.

I get that prize money is good, but this is a team just relegated to our division, who recently beat us 4-0.

The prospect of a win is remote, so it's just an opportunity to take a free hit to get minutes in legs.

Why have they been relegated to League one?

No, probably not, but for some reason, I guess the friendly and cup game in such quick succession, I thought they had been. Plus, hating the idea of them being above us.

Whoops. Just makes the point even more so. We're not likely to get past a Championship side who just beat us 4-0 in a friendly, no matter what side we put out.

Don't actually mind Fratton Park. The outside concourse at the rear of the away stand is a bit shit, but there's some nice historical bits at the stadium. Great away day for drinking. Staggeringly Good a stone's throw away and Southsea is packed with decent pubs.

I see it the other way Ian.
I guess they will play their reserve team which surely isn't better than our first team so we would probably (?) have a chance of winning the game putting out our first team.
Hunt is looking for a settled team and a settled system so why not play the same eleven as we did on Saturday to get more practice with playing together?

If we were to get through there would not only be the possibility of making more money but also in a season where league expectations are low, progress in a cup competition is something that most fans would surely like.
I really don't like the idea of being knocked out of a cup competition even before the main division hasn't yet started.

We went to both games and I took my son and some of his school mates to the second game.
We were just about the only people stood on the away terracing in the rain and a few teenagers had joined us claiming to be Reading fans.
After the first goal they showed their true colours-our boys were a bit worried but there was no aggro (nor any police or stewards to be seen).

I doubt they played their full first team the entire friendly, and took us apart.

Our chances are slim no matter what, why risk the injuries.

Apparently more injuries occur through training rather than playing matches and one of the managers was moaning at the weekend about a player having a personal trainer and getting injured during one of those sessions.
I know that mine is a minority view Ian but if the manager is trying to get a new set of players to gel what better than getting them to play matches.

After all of this I expect us to put out a disjointed and weakened team just as happened at times under Coppell. and .......win.

But, the whole squad has to train to be fit. They don’t all have to play cup games.

For what it's worth, I agree that we do need to build understanding in the forward line, which is why my team on page 1 has Lane, Kelvin and O'Mahoney starting. It's the rest of the team I'd change it up with.

Can't a guy have a friendly debate about the team and approach to cup games without getting heckled from the peanut gallery?
