Deathy Erm, Spacey's origianal post didn't need any editing.

But you did edit out the relevant bits.

Deathy He admits to knowing nothing of Exeter and yet knows they'll get relegated next season.

I didn't say I know, I said I think. I cannot claim to know how their next season will go, but based on what happened to Brighton and Rotherham, I can guess that they may hit a glass ceiling.

Reading have lost 2 play off finals in recent years. I tell you what, I bet we lose another one.

What does that have to do with successive promotions?

And are you going to answer my question in my previous post?

Thaumagurist* I really am surprised by this. I've actually never been to see them play - purely because they're not Reading. ;)

I think they'll come back down. Not easy for a club to stay up after two promotions. Just look at Brighton and Rotherham. Hope they do well though.

Spacey - i know you only "support" Liverpool (and follow Reading) but do you feel quite happy that Exeter went up? - surely living in the city for so long you must feel something for them, even if you dont support them. It must have been a great atmosphere in the city pubs Saturday night?

To be honest, I'm not overly bothered about Exeter. Much in the same way that I wasn't overly bothered about either teams in Manchester when I was at uni there.

I didn't really go into town on Saturday night, I just went to a couple of pubs just before the town centre and it was just business as usual.

I can understand the Manchester one, being they're both big clubs, but surely Exeter being a small time club like we used to be - its nice to see them do well. If Reading were to fold for whatever reason would you not start going to watch them play?

I think, to be fair to Spacey, he has a valid point. More often than not, two promotions on the spin ends up in an instant relegation, and if not instant then more than likely within two seasons. Spacey's assumption and opinion on this thread are perfectly valid IMO. of course, I have the benefit of having seen their defensive abilities from set pieces against Morecambe a week and a half ago. If they defend like that in League 1, they will go down.

Thaumagurist* Did you miss the bit where I gave the reason why I thought they might be coming back down, you benefit-frauding telephone box wánker.

You know f**k all about Exeter City but cast the opinion anyway. Seriously, just post +1 and be done with it. You dog fucking puppy rapist.

Still

Spacey, you just make a point based on odds, yet you yourself admit to not knowing jack about Exeter. The odds are against them perhaps, but no one gave the likes of P'Boro a shot this season and look at them. Momentum can carry you so far, and they have a terrific young manaager there who will hopefully stick with it and see them to safety next season. Money is tight but then at these lower levels, it's not always about money. See Walsall, Crewe, Bury, Scunny, Colchester in recent years.
I just disagree with admitting knowing so little about something but making a huge assumption.

For what it's worth, I think Reading will balls up the play-offs and I wont win the lottery this month either. I dunno, call it a feeling.

Just like Doncaster who IIRC got promoted from the Conference and won the 3rd Division the next season, they've not looked back. Yeovil may have done the same but I think they may have had two or three in League 2 before going up.

What people forget the step between League 1 and the Championship is a lot wider than Conference to League 1 via League 2.

Lets look at where the winners of the conference have ended up now -

97/98 - Halifax (finished 10th in 98/99) (Now dont exist due to financial means)
98/99 - Cheltenham - Promoted twice and relegated twice back to League 2
99/00 - Kidderminster - Relegated back after 3/4 seasons in the league
00/01 - Rushden - again relegated after about 3/4 seasons in the league. after going up to League 1
01/02 - Boston - relegated after a few campaigns- and now in Conf North
02/03 - Yeovil - Got to league 1 playoff final within 4 years. Doncaster - 14th Championship in 08/09
03/04 - Chester - relegated after five seasons. Shrewsbury - flirted with playoffs last 3 seasons
04/05 - Barnet - still in L2. Carlisle - won promotion in first season
05/06 - Accrington - solidly in League 2. Hereford - promoted to LEague 1 and back
06/07 - Dagenham - flirted with the playoffs. Morecambe (see Accrington)
07/08 - Aldershot - comfortble last season. Exeter - Promoted as runners up.

Why has the standard of football down there been predominantly useless?

So mostly in League 2 or below, proving Spacey's point. Well done to Donny though for keeping it going.

To be fair, he looked good for them individually.

And the club have missed a trick - he has Troy on the back of his shirt. They should make him put Archibald-Henville on it - £62 for a new shirt, name and number
