Royalee Bit of a turnaround from his insistence that he wanted to keep loyal to the players and didn't want to change the team.

So what else would he say? He was hardly likely to come out and unsettle them all by threatening wholesale changes that he knew he couldn't afford. He relied on the team spirit that was so key in getting us promoted and keeping us up. But that clearly diminished when certain players realised there were bigger and better things ahead and wanted out.

Royalee I fancy a good laugh so maybe he'll take over at Barnsley or Plymouth.

And would you still be laughing if he went to either of those and they finished above us?

He wouldn't, hth.

Time and again, Coppell has brought success to clubs on a limited budget. I guess you're the living proof that if you can't learn from history, you can't learn from anything.

3 promotions, 4 relegations. I think you'll find I learnt much quicker than Coppell and predicted relegation and last season's failure well in advance. As for Rodgers' credentials, he knows the club inside out, the players have more respect for him and he's rated by the best manager in world football. Your limited budget argument might carry weight if Coppell's most expensive signings weren't all flops.

The Championship table 05/06 and The Premiership table 06/07 is all weight that is needed.

If Rodgers emulates that, he would be entitled to the same respect as Coppell.

I'd say that's about 500/1

Oh, and a couple of Manger of the Year awards too.

Come back when Rodger's matched that.

Rodgers has only been a manager for a short period of time so it's hardly fair to level that at him. In his short time as a manager he managed to turn Watford around from relegation certainties to the second form team in the division over the second half of the season.

Unfortunately you neglect to mention the two unsuccessful seasons before and after 06 and 07, where he undid all of his good work.

So if finishing fourth last season was a failure Rodgers is going to have to finish third or higher for this to a successful season then Royalee.

Coppell's words, not mine.

Rodgers is at a different starting point to Coppell and is trying to build a team from scratch.

I don't need to.

It's very rare you achieve a lifetimes ambition and one of my lifetime ambitions was to see Reading played in the Premiership. Coppell played a huge part in, not only achieving this ambition, but bettering it by flourishing in the first season.

Whatever happened in other seasons, that's his achievement and i'll take that against a manager who, thus far, has achieved very little.

The majority of managers go on to never be hugely successful, that's why managers who have achieved are so highly sought after despite other failures. Ask 100 Plymouth/Barnsley fans who they would prefer, Coppell or Rodgers, I would be staggered if less than 98 said Coppell.

I really don't mind you blind faith in Rodgers, it's the incessent criticism of Coppell that grates - hugely as he is singularly the most successful employee in the club's history and, almost certainly, still will be in 50 years time.

So your basing your views on 2 seasons of sentiment? Pardew did far more to achieve Premiership football than Coppell did and that's a fact. We had the spine of a very good side when Coppell took over and it took him 3 years to take us up even with that, the first Premiership season was a combination of momentum and good luck as the second season proved.

You underline your stupidity by insisting that 50 years down the line we will not get anywhere near those two seasons which is absolutely daft given how far we were away a mere 10 years ago and where we are now. I don't care what Barnsley or Plymouth fans want because they are watching on from afar and know very little in reality so that argument is more bollocks.

It appears to be you who is blinkered - it's like saying Avram Grant's the most successful ever European manager Chelsea have had so he's superior to Mourinho because you aren't taking into account the starting point in terms of resources and time each had.

I'm not basing it on two years of sentiment, i'm basing it on two years of achievement, arguably three given the lack of investment into the second premiership season.

To suggest Pardew, who never took Reading up to the prem, is more responsible for Premiership football than Coppell, who did, is pretty laughable TBH. Coppell improved Pardew's team beyond all recognition, changing most of the personnel along the way.

As for 50 years, think of all the clubs ever to get promoted and thrive without spending fortunes, in the last three decades you could count them on one hand. It very rarely happens.

Pardew took us from the bottom of League 1 to 4th in the Championship over 4 seasons, Coppell took us from 4th in the Championship to 4th in the Championship over 6 seasons.

Hahnemann, Shorey, Murty, Sidwell, Harper - 5 of the starting 11 from the Premiership first season plus Little who Pardew had previously first brought to the club - hardly a total overhaul like you make out is it?

Again you bring up lack of investment so let's take a look at Coppell's big money signings:

Fae - flop
Halford - flop
Seol - flop

Then he spunked a load of money in wages on utter shite to basically add bodies when one or two quality additions would have easily kept us up instead and still worked out cheaper.

There isn't even a debate to be had here royalee. Coppell has achieved a lot more than Rogers, who jumped ship to go to chelsea, then jumped ship from watford to go to reading.
He's good at jumping ship, thats about all he's achieved thus far.

He spent 12 years at Reading, he's coached at what were the most successful club in the land for 5 years, turned Watford around and come back with more experience - hardly making a career out of jumping ship, you make it sound like he keeps leaving clubs in the shit.

Speaking of jumping ship, how long did Coppell last at Man City? He also 'jumped ship' after less than 12 months at Brentford and Brighton.
