Don't have an awful lot of choice if that's what your manager wants, the manager your fans are backing and you brought in to do well.

Of course you have a choice.

When the manager arrives he is told what his budget is - if he wants to take you further into debt than the budget "allows" you just say no.

It really should be that simple.

Please don't let this be another false dawn....

Even though I am exiled I want to tune in to South Today and see a load of spactards in shell suits with sovereign rings on each of their 12 fingers crying about how they won the cup only 2 years ago etc etc...

I think Derby's points record is going to be challenged this season.

Of course it SHOULD, but look at it more closely. You've appointed a high profile manager, on a high wage, with a lot of backing from the fans who are demanding success. It wouldn't be too wise to effectively force his resignation by refusing him funds.

Although of course, his record is well known, so appointing him in the first place requires some blame to be shouldered. I'm not saying the Chair is squeeky clean, but I don't think you can absolve Redknapp from blame by saying that the chairman sets the budget and approves transfers.

Would anyone take administration for a FA Cup win?

Provided it was just a blip - I know I would.

Good old 'arry.

Is there any club he's managed that have not since been in major financial problems? Bournemouth, West Ham, Southampton, Pompey. Prob can't blame him for Southampton, but he rapped Pompey and remember his rep was in taters after leaving West Ham.

He knew exactly what would happen when they are paying people between 80k - 100k a week with their support. Jumps ship just before it all hits the fan and tells Pompey fans they should be grateful. I thought he was working on a tight budget at Spurs too? In fact he said he had no money to spend when he went there. Is there anyone better at spending someone else's money?

Yep but he's the manager and not the Financial Director. The overall financial health or otherwise of the business is not his responsibility.

How far would you take that? Would you accept 3(+) seasons in the third division in exchange for a Champions League semi-final?

administration is never going to be just a blip though is it? It's usually preceeded by a shoite season or two and then followed up by a whole lot more.

The situation Pompey are in that is classed as a long term contract.

Sulaiman Al Fahim announces ownership of Pompey

Published Date: 26 August 2009
Sulaiman Al Fahim has announced he has bought Pompey, The News can reveal.
The conclusion to the deal brings to an end months of speculation surrounding Pompey's future.

A statement sent to The News by Ivo Ilic Gabara, Al Fahim's spokesman, said: 'Devondale Investments, the current owner of Portsmouth FC, and Al Fahim Asia Associates Ltd. (AAA), a company fully owned by Sulaiman Al Fahim, Chairman of the Board of Portsmouth FC, have reached an agreement whereby AAA has become the new sole owner of the Club.

'Sulaiman Al Fahim welcomed this agreement and looks forward to helping the Club build on its impressive history and achieve new successes in the Premier League.

'The chairman of the club would like to extend his gratitude to the players, staff and supporters of Portsmouth FC who have shown an extraordinary level of commitment and loyalty to this great club.'

The News has also been told that Peter Storrie's deal to buy the club will no longer go ahead.

News of a takeover headed by Pompey's chief executive broke last week after it looked like Al Fahim's bid to buy the club had hit the rocks.

Yesterday sources at the club revealed Storrie's 'Plan B' deal was imminent and his mystery backer would be announced in the next 24 hours.

But today's announcement confirms that Sulaiman Al Fahim will be the man in charge as Pompey look to fight their way clear from the foot of the Premier Leagie table.
