Relaxed Stewarding at Southampton

by LoyalRoyalFan » 15 Apr 2012 10:30

Well done to Southampton for the relaxed stewarding on Friday night.

The away fans were allowed to stand without trouble and the home fans in the Northam Stand, were allowed to stand with no hassle at all. This is the model we need at the Madejski.

Y25/26 to stand without bother and a general non-fascist element to the ground.

Looked like the whole stand was a terrace on Friday night!

Apart from cases of cut shins we have had two clubs now show complete logic about the passion generated and let us stand if we chose to.

Thankfully this wasn't Forest or Leeds who show the complete opposite, and are OTT on the occasions i have visited.

Brum next.

Brilliant atmosphere, my shins are still bruised and cut though, but a war injury i am happy to feel the effects of.

Did anyone else see the guy behind me who snapped his finger backwards during the le fondre goal celebration?? was disgusting lol but he wont ever forget that goal

Which is ironic at Leeds because the stewards don't dare ask their fans in the Don Revie stand to sit down. In fact the fans don't all sit in their seat number, and instead happily accept others coming to their row and 'budging up'. Smoking also ignored.

Didn't sit once at Southampton, not that we could anyway. No wonder they have a 30,000 capacity as they seem to have crammed as many seats in as they could.

The smoking in the toilets at half time was horrendous though and some people were visibly struggling to breathe in there.

Still, one of the best away atmospheres I've ever seen.

The same with that smoke bomb or whatever it was in the concourse.
Actually it's the first time i have seen the 4 stewards trying to physically prevent the team celebrating the second goal. THAT is over reaction.
