Football, Racism and British Society Research

by theacademic » 06 Jun 2012 16:57

I've just started a research project looking at whether Britain is regressing to a less civil state with less social constraint and more casual aggression. The questionnaire has just gone live at http://www.topfan.co.uk and as you’ll see, the questions are very current. Is British society going through what sociologists would refer to as a de-civilising trend? Have your say in the survey and thanks in advance.

Isn't the OP making a statement - either deliberately or sub-consciously - by coming onto a football fan site asking about racisim and aggression?

Has he/she approached the Women's Institute I wonder????

The questions are so current, I was addressing the same ones 18 years ago at university.

Sociology - The science of endlessly stating the bleeding obvious.

Article linked on that survey is quite interesting, about the "collapse of civility" in Britain:

Just had a read through the comments

Someone even equates increased crime to the fact that it’s not easy to own a gun over here.

It's gotten so bad, he writes, that up to 50 percent of the population is thinking about immigrating abroad "to escape the other 50 percent of the population."

anyway anyone who thinks Britain is broken should try running a Marathon, the support is absolutely brilliant. check the Claire Squires just giving, and the Jubilee. people who think we live in a brutish society need their head checked.

The demographic of that support would be interesting.

I respected my parents and other older ones. All comes down to how you're brought up.

well yes, I've always respected my elders etc etc because I wasn't brought up by a family of ingrates.

But there have always been families of ingrates, that's the real problem.

And all kids get lumped into the same bracket by the elders. Those stupid kids. But they can't help it.
