My question is - is the initial challenge a foul?

At first I thought no, but now I think yes. It was a foul and penalty.

Perfectly good challenge in days of yore, the ball is won cleanly and the tackle is not dangerous

Unfortunately in these days of no body contact being allowed and defenders not being allowed to practice proper defending it is a definite spot kick.

Quite right that an attack of that nature should earn a life ban, one wonders though if it was a leading PL star whether the punishment would have been as severe

Watching any rugby is like watching England football matches.

95% of the time it's frustrating as fcuk but, just as you're about to give up on it entirely, up pops that 1 in 20 game and makes you think maybe it's not so bad after all. Which it pretty much is.

Give me a proper cricket match anytime.

Even then I was a bit meh to it all.
