The Yeovil/Brum "walk in" goal

by TBM » 28 Aug 2013 12:52

Didn't release this happened last night

Basically it was the 90th min and Birmingham [2-1 up] tried to waste time by a player going down "injured" - they kicked it out but Yeovil didn't give it back and scored - sending the game in to extra time.....but then when they went 3-2 up, they let Birmingham walk the ball in to the net to make it 3-3.........Yeovil then lost on pens

Yeovil let Birmingham walk in a goal unopposed to make amends for their own "unsporting" equaliser - but were still knocked out of the Capital One Cup on penalties.

In bizarre scenes at Huish Park, Yeovil's Byron Webster made it 2-2 and sent the tie into extra-time when he controversially chipped into an empty net after Blues goalkeeper Colin Doyle had kicked the ball out following an injury to Dan Burn.

Lee Clark's team expected it to be returned to them yet, with the defender still down, Webster quickly received the ball from the throw-in and chipped Doyle, who was still off his line, prompting a skirmish between both sets of players.

Luke Ayling made it 3-2 to Yeovil in extra time with a left-footed drive.

But, straight from the restart, the home crowd were left stunned when City's Lee Novak was allowed to score an unopposed equaliser after Glovers manager Gary Johnson decided Webster's goal had been "ungentlemanly."

Cheats usually prosper, so no change there.

I'm with Yeovil for playing on, it's not up to the keeper to decide to stop the game.

I'm expecting Yeovil to be equally sporting on Saturday.

Goal of the season contender. He must've ran half of the length of the pitch!

Birmingham tried to do the exact same thing themselves against Watford on the first day of the season

Still, not as bad as you lot claiming that phantom goal against Watford and not admitting to it. Very unsporting that.

"It wasn't our mistake," said Stephen Hunt

The Watford manager refused to attach any blame to Reading's players or their manager, Steve Coppell,

The more players who refuse to give the ball back when the opposition kick it out the sooner this nonsense will end, bloody idiots

Errrr, I got news, you dickhead. We didn't "claim" the goal, the referee awarded it. Imagine the players' surprise, no, don't try to imagine it as you haven't got the imagination. They were actually surprised when the referee awarded it, but didn't dispute it because they weren't sure what actually happened. Where's the unsporting behaviour here? Compared to deliberately kicking the ball out of play to waste time.

Had to chuckle about Neil Warnock's whingeing in i newspaper regarding Gary Johnson's Yeovil cheating and how he had done the same with Bristol City. Pot? Kettle? Black?
