Boing boing Coppell Coppell boing boing

by Deathy » 17 Jun 2009 12:42

West Brom apparently have Coppell at the top of their wish list along with Curbs.

Have to say, I hope Coppell gets the job. Big club, sound infrastructure and a real favourite for promotion this season.

Kicking off the season against Newcastle too, and we play the Geordies after. Potentially Newcastle could start their season with 2 played, 2 defeats. 8)

I seriously doubt that Coppell would want to join a new club so soon after quitting Reading. Coppell wanted a break, so I don't think he'll be interested in West Brom.

I hope he goes there because it'll mean West Brom have absolutely no chance of going up. Lots of well-known players with strong personalities and a lot of foreigners he won't be able to communicate with.

I thought that too, but the Evening Post seems to think he said he wanted to take a couple of months off:

http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/football/readingfc/s/2052656_west_brom_want_coppell Although he is not ready to retire, the former Crystal Palace, Brentford and Brighton boss has said he wants to take a couple of months off before taking up a new job.

Don't you get 2 months off in the close season anyway?

He wont take a new job until 2010 in my view.

Who are you to determine what a break means?

Coppell said he wanted to go and watch others managing and coaching, to pick up new ideas and skills . then return to management in the future, no time period mentioned, but i would agree it is unlikely to be this side of Xmas.

That's all good and well, but if a job comes along that is too good to turn down, you take it. WBA is a good job!

Reading was a good job, and he decided to walk away, sometimes you just dont need it for a while, Coppell does not need the money, and as he is off learning even good jobs can be ignored, like 17 Buses there will be another along in 30 mins, or 3 together if no queue.

Indeed, but sometimes you know you've done all you can and you need a fresh challenge. Numerous claims he lost the dressing room, and it was good for all concerned when decided it was time, even though he's by far the best manager we have ever had.

I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility that he can be back in work by July, and fair play if he is.

Of course he can be back in work... but the point is it doesn't seem like he wants to be. I think he's totally on the level about taking time out to study other people's methods and get new ideas. I doubt we'll see him in another job this season. Certainly not before December.

Fine, but if a job that is too good to turn down comes along, I'm sure he'll be very interested.

West Brom is hardly a job too good to turn down. Maybe if Sir Alex retires then it'd be a bit more tempting..

LOL because Coppell'd be top of their list and could take the pressure.
