Watford

by Royalwaster » 03 Jul 2009 09:57

Anyone know why Watford are in such financial trouble - surely they cannot be accused of having gambled away their money on their Prem adventure. If anything they were similarly conservative like us, so how come they are in so much trouble now - does make me wonder whether MrMad is being indeed very wise taking the careful approach re. selling Doyle, Kitson, Shorey etc. without blowing the cash on other players to make sure we're not in their position in a few years time. Or is there some other reason underlying their problem I don't know about, which means we're unlikely to be in the same position?

Doesn't it go back to the Vialli experiment - don't think they've ever really recovered from that.

They must have, they were promoted with us to the Premiership. They spent a small amount on players and surely put the many millions into debts etc and had some left over. But their troubles seem worse than ever. The money went somewhere...

They also sold Ashley Young for a pretty sizeable fee.

I don't think it has anything to do with Vialli myself.

Premier League wages? They were only there one season and weren't really ready for promotion when they went up. If they failed to reduce the bill quick enough then that could have scuppered them a fair bit. If they were already in a bit of doodoo from previously that could have tipped them over the edge.

They seem to have a few players who were likely to still be fairly well payed.

Spending £4m on Nathan Ellington didn't help.

It's entirely down to Reading's decision to accept the goal that never was
