What should a manager do?

by philM » 14 Jul 2009 21:48

Personally I have this image of a manager spending his time working out tactics and studying the opposition, and then discussing those tactics with players, and ensuring that coaching sessions tie in to his objectives for individual players. Followed by monitoring of progess and more coaching.

Tevez is whining that Fergie only talked to him once, and Slur Alex says that he texted him in January about his future and "he never responded".

FFS no wonder it's all going horribly wrong.

What should a manager be spending his time doing?

Alternatively, (Fergie style) what the hell do they spend their time doing?

Depends on the individual manager. Some like to be out there doing the coaching themseves, some leave it all to the coaches and let them do all the dealings with the players.

Does this 'Fergie only spoke to me once' line refer to the whole transfer saga..

..or during his entire time at United?

Fergie usually gets things right in the sense of the media etc but I can't help but think he has made a bit of a twat of himself in this case. A player that the fans were begging him to sign decides to leave and join their local rivals, of course he is embarassed and wants to make it look like he did everything he could to stop it to try and keep the fans on side but suddently claiming that he couldn't even get hold of Tevez on his phone is a bit pittiful really.

If I were Fergie, I'd be saying "how hard should I have to try to keep someone at a club like this? If they don't want to stay here and earn accolades and medals, then why would I want them?"

Jose = Rodgers
