Sekou Baradji

by shaka's shorts » 28 Jul 2009 22:53

Just seen this on sky sports web site - surely not - wasn't he a waste of space at Reading before?

Sekou Baradji believes he has done enough during a trial spell at Blackburn to earn a permanent contract.

The Frenchman has been training with Rovers of late in the hope of securing a move to England.

The 25-year-old midfielder is currently contracted to Portuguese side Naval, but it is reported that a fee of around €500,000 (£430,000) would be enough to secure his services.

Baradji is confident an agreement will be reached, allowing him the opportunity to fulfil a dream of playing in the Premier League.

"I believe that I could do well for this team but the decision rests with the coach and the two clubs striking a deal," he said.

Baradji has previously been on the books of West Ham United and Reading, but failed to make an impact with either.

He insists he is a better player than he was back then, between 2005 and 2006, and claims he is ready for a second shot at English football.

"I am now more mature and better equipped to play in the Premier League," he added.

Yeah, I was in disbelief when I saw this...was behind Convey, Hunt, Shorey and Makin in 05/06. So will be behind Warnock and Pedersen at Blackburn....

Moved comfortably ahead of SHunt though.

I don't think we saw enough of him to make a true honest assessment. From what I can remember, he made only two starts in weakened Carling Cup line-ups, and a couple of sub appearances. Of course, it was him who put the free kick in for Gunnarsson to head home the late winner against Sheff Utd. He deserves recognition just for that!

In response to my plaintive cry of "FFS don't let him take the free kick" just a couple of seconds before.

Would that be in response to his previous effort 4 or 5 minutes earlier which failed to even beat the knees of the two man wall?

Quite possibly - but that's what comes when a player uses SHunt's corner-taking as his role model.

He was never on a permanent contract, only on a short term deal. I can't vouch for where he is now, although we signed him from Kaiserslautern I think.

I remember him setting up Kits' in a Carling Cup match which was, funnily enough, also against Sheffield United if my memory is at all accurate.

Apparently plays for Daejeon Citizens in South Korea now. Amusing quote from Obinna's Wiki page: -
"In the early part of season 2005-06, he played a minor part in Reading's record breaking promotion season. He did not score, but set up several goals."

He also spent some time with SS Cassino in Italy, scoring 29 goals in 36 appearances, but their level of Serie C (C for Crap I believe?) would explain his goals to games ratio.

Serie C is, I think, regionalised, actually consists of about 5 leagues and consists of a lot of teams that are de facto feeder clubs for bigger teams.

Lega Italiana Calcio Professionistico (Lega Pro) is the name of the third and fourth highest football leagues in Italy. It is broken up into Prima Divisione (third tier) and Seconda Divisione (fourth tier).

In turn, Prima Divisione consists of two divisions: Prima Divisione/A and Prima Divisione/B, both of 18 teams. At the end of the season, four teams (two from each division) go up to Serie B and six teams (three from each division) go down to Seconda Divisione.

Seconda Divisione consists of three divisions: Seconda Divisione/A, Seconda Divisione/B, and Seconda Divisione/C, all of them composed of 18 teams. At the end of the season, six teams (two from each division) go up to Prima Divisione and nine teams (three from each division) go down to Serie D.

For both Prima Divisione and Seconda Divisione, teams are split into gironi (divisions) by geographical criteria.

Him, Ludomir Blaha and Eric Obinna-Cholmondely-Wumbly were the rocks on which our '05-'06 season was built.

My finest moment with John Halls was briefly chatting to him at the Nuts awards and him pointing out that he wasn't on Hobnob, he was actually a player.
