Reading have been drawn against League Two side Newport County in the first round of the League Cup. The game will take place during the week beginning 11 August - meaning the game will most likely be held at the Madejski Stadium on 12 August with an 8pm kick-off.
Newport finished mid-table in League Two last season, returning to the Football League after 25 years playing non-league football. In their first season back in the League they also recorded an impressive 3-1 victory over Brighton in the first round of the League Cup. Given that Reading managed to lose 0-6 at Peterborough in their League Cup game last season, Newport might fancy their chances of another upset.
